How to Fix the iexplore Exe Application Error

In: fix errors

Is an iexplore exe application error driving you crazy? The answer might be simpler than you think….

iexplore exe application error

iexplore exe application errors occur typically when browsing the Internet with Internet Explorer, or when Internet Explorer is closed.

This is where the “iexplore” part of the message comes from (iexplore = Internet Explorer).

The error message is commonly paired with a cryptic warning something like this:

The instruction at “0×72106322″ referenced memory at “0×72106322″.  The memory could not be ‘read’.   Click on OK to terminate the program.

In basic terms, what this error means is that what there is a process on your system that is attempting to call on a certain block of memory, while that block is being executed. Let’s use a car analogy to make it simpler (computer help would be lost without car analogies…).

Ever start your car, let it idle, get distracted, then turn the key on the ignition once again? It didn’t make the car too happy, and it’s similar to what’s happening here. The memory is already being executed (the car is idling) when it is attempted to be called again (the ignition is turned). Nothing can be in two places at once, be it a car’s ignition, or a certain block of memory.

Most often, the root cause of the error is with ActiveX, a process that runs in Internet Explorer that works with special web effects.

But what is the cause of this?

There are two possibilities here.

  1. The site you have visited has a coding error. In this case, there’s no problem with your PC. You might even want to send the website owner an email, to let him know there is a coding error on his site.
  2. There is a problem with your PC. You’ll know this is the case if the error keeps occurring or occurs with multiple websites.

If the error is caused by something on your PC, there are a few areas to investigate.

Malware. Yes, these devious infections strike again. Malware refers to something nasty on your PC, including viruses, spyware, etc. With malware, the bug is likely an add-on to Internet Explorer – probably some kind of toolbar that installed itself.

Since the scammer that created the malware isn’t too concerned with quality of workmanship, the malware has lots of coding errors, which lead to the iexplore Exe Application issue. The obvious solution here is to scan for and remove malware.

On a similar note, the error could be due to a toolbar installed on Internet Explorer. The toolbar doesn’t have to be malware, but it can still react poorly with some websites, or have it’s own coding problems. Consider removing some of your web toolbars to see if that fixes the problem.

A final possibility is an error in the Windows registry. A registry issue with ActiveX Controls could trickle through your PC, and end up as an error on your screen. To be sure, look for some reliable registry cleaners and scan with registry cleaner software to rule this out.
