Are you suffering from BHO Blindness?

In: security|tips and tricks

Has your internet browser been cluttered, so crammed, so bloated with toolbars? Worse than that – have you gotten used to ignoring the toolbars, forsaking the lost screen space forever? Are toolbars cluttering up your PC?

BHOs (browser helper objects) is a technical term that include toolbars, search bars, and any other ad on for your web browser. Many of these are helpful and important. Google has a popular toolbar, and there are many site analysis toolbars that allow you to learn more “behind-the-scenes” details about your favorite sites.

But there are thousands of other BHOs with are useless, overly large, and serve to just clutter up your screen. Some of these are included as unwanted bundles when you download something else – if you download a certain application, a toolbar may be included and installed automatically.

Others are straight up malware – BHO programs that you don’t want, don’t need, didn’t ask for, and can’t remove.

To remove some of the nicer varieties from IE8, open Internet Explorer and click Tools. Then click Manage Add-Ons. From there, you can view the installed add-ons, and disable the ones you don’t need.

Other security and optimization programs will let you directly cut-out annoying BHOs. PC Health Advisor, our optimization and anti-spyware solution, solves  the problem in two ways. For one, it scans your system for malware, to ensure that the toolbars are not part of a larger spyware or other malware operation. For another, PC Health Advisor has a unique BHO editor, so you can see all your BHOs at a glance. (Plus, PC Health Advisor also includes one of the best registry cleaners available.)

To do this, open PC Health Advisor, click the “Browser Object Manager” button. From there you can disable the unwanted toolbars and other add-ons.

So there’s really no need to have your valuable screen real estate taken up by unwanted toolbars. If you’ve got used to having multiple toolbars, leaving a tiny window to view your favorite websites – your online world can get a lot bigger. A top class registry cleaner software program will make it easy.
